Creating my own graphics

I thought it was about time I posted some of my own digital art. I have been creating graphics using a open source program called ‘GIMP’ for a little while. (Check out this program at http://www.gimp.org/. ) Tonight I had some fun and played around with some of the different effects. Here are some of what I came up with. I hope you enjoy them.

This one is purple supernova. I love this effect.

Orchids are one of my favourite flowers. So I just had toplay around with a picture I had of one. This is one of the results.

One of the best groups on the web

I have been on a few newsgroups over the years but one of the best I have found is called “Mountain Song” It is a yahoo group owned by a fabulous woman named Jeanne “Evening Rain” Chadwick. This is a group where we share graphics and other beautiful things. This is a tolerant group of people who are very welcoming. I just had to take the opportunity to plug this great group. What is my favourite smell?

Apples have to be one of the greatest smells in the world. I love the sweet aroma. It doesn’t matter whether it is apple pie, apple cider, or fresh apples from the tree. The smell brings back all the wonderful smells of fall. As a child my parents and went out to the local orchard (having grown up in Northumberland County, Ontario there were a lot to choose from) to get baskets of apples for my mother’s autumn baking. It was such a joy to walk in and see the rows and rows of baskets of apples. I couldn’t wait to sink my teeth into one of those juicy fruits. At most of the orchards the children would get one free. I would bite into it and the juice would run down my chin but as a child I just didn’t care. I just savoured the wonderful sweet taste. For the next week or so I would frequently come home from school to the aromatic sensation of cooking apples. My mother made lots of apple pies and apple sauce. Most was stored for the winter but there would always be a fresh cooked treat for dessert that night. As an adult one of my favourite treats is a cup of Montabello Apple Spice tea from the Fairmont Hotels tea collection. I love having a cup of this before I go to bed on a cool autumn night. Apples are a very soothing smell and taste. No wonder they say “an apple a day keeps the doctor away.”

 

Josephine Wall – One of my favourite artists

A few years ago, I discovered this great artist Josephine Wall on the internet. Please check out her website at http://josephinewall.com/josephine.html. Unfortunately, I can’t afford to have her work hanging in my home but if I could I definitely would.
Her paintings get my imagination flying to wonderful magical places. It’s as if she has looked into my mind and pulled out pieces of my fantasies. I’m sure many people feel this way and I hope those of you who are not familiar with her work will love it as much as I do.

As I look at the piece above, I can’t help but see myself as that little fairy; dancing among the daisies What young girl wouldn’t love to have wings and be able to flutter above the earth like a butterfly. The colour and detail she uses draws me in.

I’m so glad there are such amazingly talented people as Josephine Wall in the world!

Adding to this site

I am slowly adding more things to this page. I’m not sure what to add. I like so many things that it’s hard to decide what to post. I am going through my bookmarks and a few interesting ones. There will be an eclectic selection on this page. I hope there’s something for everyone there.

I added one of my favourite poems (A Prayer) as well. I recently discovered this poem and it really said how I feel.

I will be continuing to add things. I hope you like it.

Welcome to my little corner of cyberspace!

 

 

I’ve been wanting to create my own small corner of cyberspace for a while. So here I am. I love to write, draw and be creative in any way I can. I want this site to be a happy place where people can visit when they need to take a zen moment.

One of the things I love to do is write in my journal. So one of the things I will be sharing here are journaling prompts and writing ideas. I would love to see what other writing ideas people have.

Poems and stories will also be frequently posted here. If you have any you’d like to share feel free to send them to me. I love all kinds of writing but especially science fiction and fantasy.

Another frequent share here will be graphics and photos. I love beautiful pictures. There will always be something pretty here to look at.

So that’s what this place is about. If you like what you see feel free to come back as often as you like.
